Overnight one of the biggest nights in country music took place, the Country Music Association Awards, (CMA Awards), and it was set to be a night to remember with a historic opening medley with an all-female collaboration. Described as, 'A monumental decades-spanning medley never before seen,' the opening performance was led by Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.
Carrie, who also co-hosted the awards, joined us on The Ty Bentli Show yesterday in the run up and after hearing Miranda Lambert explain why she thought Carrie should win Entertainer of the Year, Carrie said, "It would be a nomination for all of us, it wouldn't just be a win for things that we've been doing."
However, despite many people rooting for Carrie, sadly it wasn't to be as Carrie who was up for three awards, Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, for 'Cry Pretty', went away empty-handed.
On the night, Garth Brooks won the highly-coveted Entertainer of the Year, with Kacey Musgraves winning female vocalist and Maren Morris taking home Album of the Year for 'Girl'.
When the winners were announced Carrie's fans were quick to comment on Twitter, one said, 'Hold your chin up high, @I would’ve loved to have seen the light in your eyes when they called your name for EOTY, but the CMAs have a history of getting it incredibly wrong. We are SO stinking proud of you!!! We love you more than you know.♥️ #CMAaward.'
With another saying, 'Carrie Underwood is the entertainer of the decade. It’s WELL OVERDUE that she receive the award! Do the right thing @CountryMusic #CMAs #EOTY #CU4EOT.'
