Following the sad news that Charlie Daniels passed away at the age of 83, country music stars have been paying tribute to the 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' singer.

Luke Combs took to Twitter to tell his fans, 'The country music flag is flying at half mast today. RIP Charlie Daniels.'

Meanwhile Chris Young posted a photo of Charlie saying, 'Absolutely gutted to hear the news of @CharlieDaniels passing this morning... what a life lived, and what an incredible human being. He will be sorely missed.'

Brad, who first opened for Charlie at the age of just 15, also contributed to his biography and shared some details for his fans on Twitter.

Quoting the name of his GRAMMY Award-winning song, Dolly Parton tweeted, 'Well, the devil went down to Georgia, but Charlie went straight to heaven. My heart, like many millions of others, is broken today to find out that we've lost our dear friend Charlie Daniels.'

Charlie Daniels died in a Nashville hospital after a stroke according to a statement from his publicist. He was best-known for playing the violin and his 1979 GRAMMY Award-winning song 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia'.

Although he previously suffered a minor stroke 10 years ago he recovered and continued to perform.
