UK Americana Awards 2023
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, Allison Russell and Loretta Lynn were among the winners
The 2023 Americana Award winners were announced on Thursday 26 January at Hackney Empire in London.
The evening celebrates the best in UK and International Americana music and both Allison Russell and English roots singer-songwriter Elles Bailey lead the night with two awards each.
Russell took home International Artist of the Year and International Song of The Year for her collaboration with Brandi Carlile ‘You’re Not Alone’.
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant won International Album of The Year for ‘Raise The Roof’ with Plant accepting the award in person. Best-selling Americana Album by a UK Artist went to Frank Turner for ‘FTHC’.
The UK Album of the Year went to Superhuman by Ferris and Sylvester (produced by Ryan Hadlock and Michael Rendall). London-based singer-songwriter Hannah White triumphed in the UK Song of the Year category for her self-penned ‘Car Crash’.
Finger-style guitarist and one of the UK’s only female professional pedal steel players Holly Carter took home the award for UK Instrumentalist of the Year.
The night was hosted by Bob Harris and Absolute Radio Country’s Baylen Leonard with award presenters including; Ward Thomas and half of The Shires and Absolute Radio Country presenter; Ben Earle.
The late Loretta Lynn was given a special Songwriter Legacy Award in honour of her life and work. Her granddaughter Emmy Rose Russell accepted the award via video from the USA, while Allison Russell, Elles Bailey and Miko Marks paid tribute with a heartfelt rendition of ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’.
