The Internet went into overdrive yesterday (Monday 11th November) when it was reported that Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness revealed a brand new series of Peter Kay's amazing sitcom Phoenix Nights was in 'planning'.

The Daily Star reported that the Bolton presenter had hinted the original cast were 100% up for a reunion, saying, "It was great. There’s always talk about doing another one. It’s just time, it’s just getting everyone together. But everyone is up for it."

However, after fans started to get excited about a potential third series online, Paddy took to Twitter to clear up the rumours.

Revealing there's NO new plans, Paddy wrote, 'Just a quick one re this Phoenix Nights rumour? Looks like a quote from a long time ago has been dug up and spun out of context. It’s true we all loved making it but there’s no plans for a new one? Well not that I’m aware of? Sorry. #PhoenixNights'. sic

Many fans were quick to comment, begging the Top Gear presenter to bring the show back.

One fan wrote, 'Bring it back, Patrick. You know it makes sense my friend.', with another adding, 'Well start making plans then'. sic A third then wrote, 'You sir have crushed my dreams 🤬🤬🤬'. sic

The popular show, which aired in the UK in 2001 and 2002, was about a working men's club called The Phoenix Club located in Bolton, Greater Manchester, and it certainly captivated the laughs of the nation in the early noughties.
