Last updated 13th Apr 2022
Novel turned TV series Normal People took the nation by storm in 2020, with viewers falling in love with the will-they-won't-they relationship between main characters Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal) - or Mariell as they are now being called.
After Sally Rooney's novel was adapted by Hulu for a 12-part series, sales of her 2018 book rocketed, with the novel topping the book charts, and now another one of her popular creations is about to hit our TV screens!
What is Conversations With Friends?
Conversations With Friends was Sally Rooney's debut novel in 2017 and follows the story of two college students in Dublin (Francis and Bobbi) who forge an unexpected relationship with a married couple (Melissa and Nick).
When is Conversations With Friends on TV?
Following the cast announcement in 2021 and first look earlier this year, it's now been confirmed the show will hit BBC Three on Sunday 15th May.
The new series will be produced by Element Pictures for BBC Three in partnership with Hulu, and will feature 12 episodes directed by Lenny Abrahamson.
Who is in the cast of Conversations With Friends?
The cast for Conversations With Friends was revealed earlier this year, including Taylor Swift's boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
Joe will play main character Nick, with Jemima Kirke set to play his wife Melissa. Newcomer Alison Oliver will portray the role of college student Francis, and American actress Sasha Lane will play the role of Bobbi.
Last year, Ed Guiney, the producer behind the adaptation of Normal People, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he'd been in talks with co-producer Lenny Abrahamson about the potential of another Sally Rooney collab.
Speaking about Conversations With Friends, Ed told the publication at the time, “Obviously it is a cousin of Normal People in a way, but it’s also quite different.
“We’re actively developing that and Lenny’s going to direct the opening episodes of that again, and that’s very exciting and a lovely thing to be working on during the lockdown.”
