Lorry fire closes A90 southbound near Ellon

The A90 southbound near Ellon has been closed due to a lorry fire.

Emergency services received reports shortly before 11.30am to a HGV blaze affecting a grass embankment on the busy Aberdeenshire trunk road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched two appliances to the scene and are currently working to contain the fire.

Police have confirmed no one has been injured.

In an update from Traffic Scotland, it advised motorists to seek an alternative route and allow extra time for journeys.

A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.25am on Thursday, 8 August, to reports of a lorry fire affecting a grass embankment on the A90 near Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

“Operations Control have mobilised two appliances to the incident where crews are working to extinguish the fire.

“There are no reported casualties, and firefighters remain at the scene."

A Police Scotland statement said: "The A90 is closed southbound south of Ellon due to a lorry on fire that was reported to police around 11.30am on Thursday, 8 August.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance and there are no injuries.

"Road users are advised to avoid the area."
