In early 2019, music mogul Simon Cowell announced he'd decided to scrap the original concept of The X Factor, instead replacing it with The X Factor: Celebrity and The X Factor: All Stars. However, after the huge success of the celebrity version, bosses appeared to change their minds on the All Stars series, instead creating The X Factor: The Band.

After former X Factor winners Little Mix announced a BBC show called The Search to find a new band to support them on tour in 2020, ITV quickly confirmed a brand new show called The X Factor: The Band.

An ITV spokesperson told us, "We are hugely excited to confirm The X Factor: The Band to air in December 2019 on ITV. Simon Cowell and The X Factor have discovered some of the biggest pop groups in history, including One Direction, Fifth Harmony and Little Mix. Now the aim is to find the new superstar group – though now in record-breaking time."

As the show aired last year, here's a big recap:

What is The X Factor: The Band?

The X Factor: The Band was a new show on ITV for 2019, with Simon Cowell hoping to find a brand new band to achieve global success. Hopefuls auditioned for the show, with the judges then carefully putting them into a band, hopefully forming a brand new worldwide pop sensation.

When was The X Factor: The Band on?

The X Factor: The Band first hit our TV screens on Monday 9th December at 8.30pm.

Viewers were then treated to another episode on both Wednesday 11th December and Friday 13th December, with both shows having a run time of 90 minutes.

The Band was unlike most other formats of The X Factor, as it only ran over the course of a week - the live final being broadcast on 15th December from Resorts World Arena in Birmingham.

Who won The X Factor: The Band?

The final saw girlband Real Like You battle it out against Unwritten Rule, and the girlband won the show with their original song 'Be Like Them'.

Check out their final performance below:

Unfortunately, we've not heard from Real Like You since!

Who were the judges on The X Factor: The Band?

Although many thought Nicole Scherzinger would be busy with The Pussycat Dolls reunion, she was able to take part in the judging panel along Simon and winner of The X Factor series three, Leona Lewis.

Who hosted The X Factor: The Band?

The legendary Dermot O'Leary returned to host this iteration of The X Factor, as he did with the Celebrity version.

How do I apply for The X Factor: The Band?

Unfortunately, the show is now finished, so there won't be any more auditions.

Were Little Mix on The X Factor: The Band?

No! The former X Factor winners actually have a very similar show, which was due to air in Spring 2020, before the Coronavirus pandemic hit.

Little Mix: The Search, which will be hosted by comedian Chris Ramsey, sounds like a very similar concept to The X Factor: The Band, with Little Mix looking to find a brand new artist to support them on tour.

Speaking about The Search, Little Mix said, "We want to create lots of incredible groups who really gel. As we have been there and done it ourselves, we know what it takes to make a group successful, and will be there to mentor them every step of the way."

Of course, The X Factor has created a number of successful bands in the past. As well as Little Mix, the likes of One Direction and JLS were also formed on the show, with both going on to achieve global success.
