The Script: Band members
The Script are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 2001. Starting off with original members Danny O'Donoghue, Glen Power and Mark Sheehan, the band now consists of Danny on vocals along with Benjamin Sargeant on bass and Ben Mark Weaver on guitar. Glen is still the drummer, but he has reportedly been taking time away from the band, with Adam Marcello filling in on drums for tours.
Mark Sheehan
In April 2023, the band announced the devastating news that Mark had passed away, paying tribute to him in a statement which read: 'Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.'
In May 2024, Danny and Glen took to Instagram to announce that touring member Benjamin Sargeant and newcomer Ben Mark Weaver would be joining the band for what they described as a 'new chapter'.
They wrote: 'Hi Script Family, You all know how much we care about you and value your opinions and the connection we share. Before everything begins, we just wanted to touch base and share our plans moving forward.
'It's been over a year since we lost our brother Mark, and it has been the toughest year of our lives. However, your love and support have carried us through, giving us the strength, inspiration, and hope to move forward. The Script, as a three-piece, will never be the same, so transitioning to a four-piece feels like the right way to go.
'It is a sign of respect to leave the past as it was and not attempt to replicate it, as we simply never will. Ben Sargeant has been with us on bass from the start, and we are excited to welcome Ben Weaver on stage with us on guitar.
'TheScriptFamily means everything to us. Without you, there is no Script, so we wanted to share our plans with you first before we start this new chapter. We can't wait to see you on the road. Love, Danny and Glen.' (sic)
How old are they?
Danny's birthday is 3rd October 1980, making him currently 46-years-old, while Glen's birthday is 5th July 1978, making him currently 48-years-old. Benjamin's birthday is 22nd August, although his birth year is unknown, while Ben Mark and Adam's birthdays are not publicly known.
How did they meet?
Danny and Mark were best friends from 12-years-old, going on to be in a boyband together called Mytown which formed in 1996 and was managed by Louis Walsh. The pair then moved to Los Angeles to write songs and produce for other artists such as Britney Spears, TLC and Boyz II Men.
Growing tired of working for other artists, they met drummer Glen Power in the early Noughties and began writing and recording their own music, putting out an EP in 2005. They moved back to Ireland to record their eponymous debut album, which was released in 2008.
Why are they called The Script?
The band decided on the name The Script as a funny nod to their experience in LA - being in a place so devoted to the filmmaking industry, they would often joke to each other and say "What's the script?" instead of "What's up?". Mark also added in an interview with Today that their songs felt like mini movies, and so there were a few links to the name.
Did The Script break up?
No, The Script didn't break up. However, they did go on a hiatus after their 'No Sound Without Silence Tour' in January 2015, with Danny confirming when it happened that they needed time off to 'chill', while later admitting that he'd also undergone throat surgery.
Like many other artists, The Script also had to break from touring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Danny later revealing he forgot the lyrics to one of their songs: "I was writing lyrics on my hands and everything!"
How many albums have they released?
The Script have released eight albums: 'The Script' (2008), 'Science & Faith' (2010), '#3' (2012), 'No Sound Without Silence' (2014), 'Freedom Child' (2017), 'Sunsets & Full Moons' (2019), 'Satellites' (2024) and 'The User's Guide to Being Human' (2026).
All eight of their albums have gone to Number 1 in their native Ireland, and all eight have won Top 3 positions in the UK.
They also have their greatest hits album 'Tales from The Script: Greatest Hits' which was released in 2021, and three EPs called 'Acoustic Sessions', released in 2018, 2021 and 2022.
The Script's biggest songs
'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'
Still considered to be the band's signature song, The Script scored their first major hit with 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved', which was released on 25th July 2008 as the second single from their self-titled debut album.
The song has spent a collective 81 weeks in the UK chart's Top 100, with 27 of those weeks being inside the coveted Top 40. It peaked at Number 2 in both Ireland and the UK, and has gone on to be certified a whopping 5x Platinum in the UK with over 3 million sales.
'Breakeven'
The band's next single was 'Breakeven', released on 24th November 2008 as the third single from their debut album. Although it only peaked at Number 21 in the UK, it went to Number 10 in The Script's native Ireland and has still been certified 3x Platinum by the BPI with over 1.8 million sales.
'For the First Time'
Released on 20th August 2010, The Script scored another UK Top 5 with 'For the First Time' - the lead single from their second album 'Science & Faith'. It went to Number 1 in Ireland and Number 4 in the UK where it has since been certified Platinum.
'Hall of Fame' (featuring will.i.am)
'Hall of Fame' gave The Script their first UK Number 1. Released as the lead single from their third album '#3', it came out on 23rd July 2012 - perfect timing for the London Olympics! A collaboration with Danny's The Voice colleague, will.i.am, 'Hall of Fame' also went to Number 1 in Ireland and has since been certified 4x Platinum with a huge 2.4 million UK sales.
'Six Degrees of Separation'
Released as the second single from the third album, 'Six Degrees of Separation' came out on 25th November 2012. Although it didn't set the charts alight - Number 25 in Ireland and Number 32 in the UK - it's still considered a fan-favourite, and has been certified Silver in the UK with over 200,000 sales. It also features co-lead vocals between Danny and Mark.
'Superheroes'
The band released 'Superheroes' on 22nd July 2014 as the lead single from their fourth album, 'No Sound Without Silence'. Co-written by Danny and Mark with songwriter James Barry, who co-wrote 'Hall of Fame', 'Superheroes' went to Number 1 in Ireland and Number 3 in the UK, where it's also been certified 2x Platinum.
'Rain'
Teaming up once again with James Barry as co-writer, Danny and Mark also worked with songwriter Kamille for 2017 track 'Rain' - who has writing credits on songs by the likes of Little Mix, Jessie J, Clean Bandit and Dua Lipa.
A more rhythmic, upbeat track for the band, 'Rain' went to Number 13 in Ireland and Number 15 in the UK, where it's been certified Platinum with over 600,000 sales.
'Man in the Arena'
The Script released 'Man in the Arena' from their eighth album 'The User's Guide to Being Human' on 22nd May 2026. Taking inspiration from a speech by former US president Theodore Roosevelt Jr., Danny said of the track: "He talks about how honours don't belong to the critics. They don’t belong to the people sitting on the couch, laughing at the person in the ring stumbling and falling around.
"The honours belong to the one who gets in there and whose face is marred with dust and blood. I remember reading it and being like: that needs to be in a tune, the energy in it is beautiful."
Danny on The Voice UK
Danny appeared on the British version of The Voice for the first two seasons. The show, which finds new singers based only on their vocal talent and not their look, has gone on to be a worldwide hit, with various versions of the show airing all around the world.
Danny sat as a judge and mentor in series one and two, which aired in 2012 and 2013 respectively, alongside Jessie J, Tom Jones and will.i.am. The first series saw him come second with his act Bo Bruce, going on to win the second series with Andrea Begley. He then left the show to concentrate on The Script once more.
Are they going on tour?
Yes, the band have announced they will be going on 'Man In The Arena Tour' in November 2026. They will be playing across Manchester, Leeds, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Cardiff, Liverpool and more.
Speaking about the tour, Danny O’Donoghue said: "Most people will never fully understand the relationship I have with words and music. It's how I process everything. I love music, I love words, and I love being Irish. All my life I poured indescribable emotions into song. When I was bullied in school, I never fought back.
"I'd wait until I got home and I'd try and sing as high and as powerfully as I could, letting the pain feel every note. When my father died, that grief became fuel for the best songs I could write."
After they've finished their tour The Script will also be performing at Hits Radio Live in Birmingham. The full line-up in Birmingham includes Jason Derulo, John Newman, Sugababes, Tinie Tempah, Clementine Douglas and December 10.
