Could Sam Ryder's 'Space Man' become the first Eurovision UK Number 1 since the 90s?
He finished second at Eurovision
Sam Ryder did us all proud when his song 'Space Man' came second in this year's Eurovision Song Contest, having been in the lead throughout the results part of the show.
It was just as the public vote results were announced that the UK lost out to Ukraine, however, that didn't stop Sam from praising the winners from the country which is current in the middle of a war.
He wrote on Instagram: 'Huge love to @kalush.official for bringing it home for glorious Ukraine!!! 🇺🇦 COULDN’T BE HAPPIER RIGHT NOW AND I CAN’T WAIT TO HUG MY GRANDAD!!! 🇬🇧🌞💫'. (sic)
The TikTok star has really captured the hearts of the nation, and he recently shared a video of him returning to the UK, where he was greeted by loads of fans at the airport.
Now, with the success of Sam's song at Eurovision, could he have more success for the song here in the UK? Last week, 'Space Man' was at Number 27 on the UK Chart Show, but it looks set to have a massive climb up the charts before the UK Chart Show on Sunday, following its success in Europe.
Take a look at The UK Chart Show's current Top 30, with the new chart being announced on Sunday 22nd May.
If 'Space Man' does manage to take the top spot in this week's UK Chart Show, then it would mean it's the first time since the 90s that a UK Eurovision entry has topped the UK Chart!
It was way back in 1996 that Gina G's fantastic euro pop hit 'Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit' reached Number 1 in the UK, after finishing eighth in Eurovision that year, it was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
