With 100,000 fans in attendance at his gigs
Last updated 19th Jul 2022
Gerry Cinnamon wrapped up his incredible 2022 tour with two huge shows at Glasgow's Hampden Park. After the first date sold out, the singer added an extra date which also went on to sell out, bringing 50,000 fans to the venue each day. It's now been revealed that these homecoming gigs have broken the attendance record at the venue.
The gigs took place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July at Scotland's national football stadium. It was announced on 18th July that they have made history as Gerry is now the first independent act, as well as the first Scot, to sell out multiple nights at Hampden Park.
The stadium has seen numerous big names in the past few months, including Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, and Calvin Harris, who all put on massive shows. However, Gerry managed to bring in triple the number of fans as fellow Scot Calvin at Hampden Park.
As well as playing some of the biggest songs from his discography including 'Ghost', 'Sometimes' and 'Belter', Gerry also performed his unreleased track 'Sacred' as well as playing a tribute to Billy Connolly. During the encore, he played a rendition of 'I Wish I Was in Glasgow' and referred to the Big Yin as his "hero".
The gigs saw an incredible reaction from the crowd, with the entire stadium singing along to his tracks and even continuing to passionately sing the closing song 'Canter' as they left the venue.
The 'Dark Days' singer has built up a huge following over the past five years to become the UK's biggest independent artist, and of the massive event, he said: 'Unbelievable gig. Unbelievable atmosphere. 3 year in the making. Folk there from the four corners of the world.
Cheers everybody. Been there since day 1. Means the world. Love yous ❤️' (sic)
