Busted: The band's biggest songs from 'Crashed the Wedding' to '3AM'
They were the soundtrack to the 00s!
Busted have a special place in the hearts of the nation, thanks to pretty much being the soundtrack to our lives in the early 00s! The band, made up of Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis, formed back in 2000, before having a hiatus between 2005 and 2015.
During their time as a band, they've released four studio albums - three of which have hit Number 2. Reuniting in 2023 for a tour and a greatest hits album, they also joined forces with good pals McFly to create supergroup McBusted - and went on their HUGE 'Busted Vs McFly Tour' in 2025.
Here we take a look at some of Busted's biggest songs:
'What I Go To School For'
'What I Go To School For' was Busted debut single, going to Number 3 in the UK! According to the band, the inspiration for the song was one of Matt's teachers called Michelle Blair. The music video even featured Jade Ewen from Sugababes!
The song peaked at Number 3 upon release and spent a further seven weeks in the Top 40. In May 2025, it was certified Platinum, translating to over 600,000 UK sales.
'Year 3000'
'Year 3000' was a mega hit for the boys back in 2002. The song was a follow-up to their fantastic debut song and reached Number 2 in the UK. It has since been covered by 5 Seconds of Summer and Jonas Brothers.
In September 2025, James was unable to take part in the 'Busted Vs McFly Tour', with his younger brother Chris stood in for him - with Matt revealing on the opening night in Birmingham that Chris actually appeared in the 'Year 3000' video!
'You Said No'
'You Said No' was Busted's first Number 1. The song was released in 2003 and was originally called 'Crash and Burn', but renamed after the Columbia Shuttle Disaster shortly before the song's release. 'You Said No' debuted at Number 1 in the UK when it was released in April 2003.
'Sleeping with the Light On'
'Sleeping with the Light On' was featured on Busted's debut album, self-titled 'Busted'. The song was a Number 3 hit for the band and written by two of the members, James Bourne and Matt Willis.
'Crashed The Wedding'
'Crashed The Wedding' is an iconic song for Busted, it was their second Number 1 single in the UK and was the lead single from their 2003 album 'A Present for Everyone'. The music video was filmed in a continuous shot, take a look below...
'Who's David'
'Who's David' was co-written by McFly's Tom Fletcher. Busted performed the song live at The BRITs in 2004 and it was certified Silver by the BPI in October 2025 - presumably thanks to fans who have been listening to the song amid the 'Busted Vs McFly Tour'!
'Air Hostess'
Another very successful song for Busted was their 2004 song 'Air Hostess'. The song was another written by McFly's Tom Fletcher, along with songwriter Stewart Henderson. Unsurprisingly the song was inspired by flight attendants the band saw on tour!
'Thunderbirds Are Go'
'Thunderbirds', also called 'Thunderbirds Are Go', was a double A side with '3AM'. It was another Number 1 for the boys and the band's last single before they started their hiatus in 2005.
