The Traitors boss hints at major format change for next series
Will the Secret Traitor return?
Last updated 1 day ago
After series four of The Traitors introduced the new Red-Cloaked Traitor to the popular game show for the first time earlier this year, fans were divided on whether they thought it made the series better or worse. And now show producer, Stephen Lambert has waded in on the debate — telling students in a university lecture that it wasn't something show bosses "wanted to keep going".
The Studio Lambert CEO told students at the University of East Anglia, in a talk about the psychology of reality TV, that the idea of keeping one Traitor a secret from the public may not "feel very satisfying" — saying viewers are "a victim of the edit".
He talked about the benefits of keeping formats fresh for shows like The Traitors, but said: "I think the pleasure of the show is the fact that the audience know who the Traitors are."
It comes after fans hailed the red-cloak twist 'a bit pointless', with others saying 'it was a shame that they revealed it so quickly.'
Now as the UK's steadily growing Traitors fanbase awaits news on series five — and following the news that the show's been renewed until at least 2030 — many are hoping the Red-Cloaked Traitor is scrapped altogether. Or perhaps Studio Lambert will take the advice of fans and simply keep the secret from the public (and the rest of the Traitors) a little longer in future.
Meanwhile, fans are also looking forward to the second series of The Celebrity Traitors, which is set to air later this year. You can check out who is rumoured to appear here.
When will series five be on TV?
There's no official date for series five of The Traitors yet, but if previous years are anything to go by, it's likely to be in the first few days of 2027.
