Stevie Nicks' song with Dolly Parton was originally written for Fleetwood Mac
The band didn't think it was good enough for their record
We're just over a week away from the release of Dolly Parton's first rock album 'Rockstar', and it features a fantastic collection of songs, with the likes of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bon Jovi legend Richie Sambora, Elton John and Blondie's Debbie Harry.
The featured line-up also includes Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, on a song called 'What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done to Me'. And Dolly Parton recently revealed how this song was actually written for Fleetwood Mac, but turned down.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Dolly said what it was like working with Stevie, revealing the origins of the song. "We talked about before she started with Fleetwood Mac. We did talk about the business. We talked about our backgrounds. In fact, our song, 'What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done to Me,' she (Stevie) said: 'This a song I wrote back when we were in the heat of our stuff.'"
Dolly continued: "She (Stevie) said: 'It’s a song I love but they didn’t think it was good enough to be on a record.' She said: 'I have an old demo of it. Can we do this one, because I wrote it about someone I was involved with that was also in the rock ’n’ roll field when we had an affair?'.
"She wrote that about their relationship because they had fun about it. 'What has rock ’n’ roll ever done for you?' They said, 'Well, everything', because they were both famous and rich. She just said: 'I just love this song. I’d like to do it just to commemorate that time in my life and that person.' We talked about stuff like that."
Dolly's 'Rockstar' album will be released on 17th November, and the singer has already announced some previews of the album will be shown in cinemas across the world. The special event will take place in on 15th November, with some extra showing the following day.
According to Trafalgar Releasing, the event will include: 'Selections from the album and an exclusive interview with Dolly.
'The behind the album event will feature a sneak peek of select tracks and music videos from the upcoming album set to release on November 17th. Plus an exclusive performance of a holiday song and her classic hit '9 to 5'.'
