The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the godparents for Prince Louis

On the 23rd April 2018 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their third child, later announcing his name would be Prince Louis Arthur Charles. Now, nearly three months later, they have confirmed who Prince Louis's godparents will be.

In a tweet from the official Royal Family Twitter account, those attending the christening and the godparents were revealed. The tweet read, 'Announcement of guests and godparents at the christening of Prince Louis today' and linked to a statement released on the Royal website.

On the Royal website it confirmed the the guests would be attending would include, 'The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Middleton, Mr. and Mrs. James Matthews, and Mr. James Middleton, The godparents of Prince Louis and their spouses.'

The statement went on to reveal the chosen godparents saying, 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked the following people to be godparents to Prince Louis, all of whom are friends or family of Their Royal Highnesses:

• Mr. Nicholas van Cutsem
• Mr. Guy Pelly
• Mr. Harry Aubrey-Fletcher
• The Lady Laura Meade
• Mrs. Robert Carter
• Miss Lucy Middleton

However, two prominent figures in the Royal family, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, will not be attending the christening, which takes place today. It is believed the decision was made some time ago with the Queen that she would not be attending the christening due to her diary being too full.

During the service Prince Louis will wear handmade replica of the Royal Christening Robe, made by Angela Kelly who is dressmaker to The Queen and the Lily Font, a silver baptismal font which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, will be used with water from the River Jordan.

After the service, the guests will be invited to a private tea where they will be served the christening cake, originally a tier from the Duke and Duchess's wedding cake, which was designed by Fiona Cairns, and made from 17 individual fruit cakes and had eight tiers. There were up to 900 individually iced flowers and leaves of 17 different varieties decorated on the cake.

Prince Louis was born on the 23rd April with the happy news announced on Twitter in a statement which read, 'Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well'. sic

They later added, 'The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.'

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first announced they were expecting their third child back in September 2017. Releasing a statement at the time, Kensington Palace revealed how the Queen and members of both families were delighted with the news.

After being born on the 23rd April, his name was revealed a few days later on the 27th April.

Prince Louis is the couple's third child together. After marrying on 29th April 2011, the Royal couple welcomed Prince George on the 22nd July 2013 and Princess Charlotte on the 2nd May 2015.
