Delays are expected on the M6 in Cheshire, after a lorry plummeted around 60 feet from a bridge.

Emergency services, including a rescue boat, were sent to the Thelwall Viaduct, near Warrington, at around 6.50pm yesterday (30th September).

Fire crews used technical equipment to lower themselves to the vehicle, rescuing the driver, who has escaped without life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters also contained approximately 1000 litres of bio-diesel from the fuel tanks of the vehicle.

There were long delays, after the carriageway was fully closed to traffic.

Lane closures remain in place this morning (Tuesday 1st October) for "complex" barrier repair work to take place.

National Highways warned of delays through the morning peak.
