The country is divided - what word do YOU hear in this voice clip?

Every so often, there are debates that sweep literally every single person in the entire country up into a frenzy. You know the ones. Remember that dress? What about that bag? And who can forget those trainers?

Well, now there's yet another argument to ruin your friendships over.

The latest confusion is over an audio clip of a man's voice, first brought to the internet's attention by a user on internet forum site Reddit.

Some people are hearing him say "Yanny", whereas others are hearing "Laurel".

Of course, people of the internet have gone mad over the clip, and it seems that there's a pretty equal divide over who is hearing what.

American supermodel and wife of musician John Legend Chrissy Teigen is 100% sure that it's Laurel.

As is British legend Stephen Fry.

However, many other Twitter users have put their backing in Team Yanny.

Thankfully, an American Twitter user has discovered why people are hearing different things – and has begged his followers to share the nugget of info before the world descends into chaos.

Dylan Bennett explained that it was all to do with frequencies, tweeting, " Okay, you're not crazy. If you can hear high freqs, you probably hear "yanny", but you might hear "laurel".

"If you can't hear high freqs, you probably hear laurel. Here's what it sounds like without high/low freqs."

He uploaded a video alongside the tweet which was able to show the voice clip in a lower frequency.

If you want to try it yourself, raise the volume of the clip on your device and hold the speakers close to your ear and you'll hear Laurel - lower the volume, move them further away and it's Yanny.

Either way, we're baffled!
