The King shares 'heartfelt thanks' for support after cancer diagnosis
King Charles III has shared a 'thank you' message to well-wishers following the news of his cancer diagnosis
Just days after it was announced King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace last night shared a statement from His Majesty, expressing his 'heartfelt thanks' for the messages of support he has received following the news.
On Tuesday night, it was confirmed by the Palace that the King was undergoing treatment for a 'form of cancer', which was detected during His Majesty's recent hospital procedure for a benign prostate enlargement.
During this procedure, medics picked up a 'separate issue of concern' - with Buckingham Palace confirming he will be postponing public-facing duties as the schedule of treatments are carried out.
Since then, health professionals and charities have been praising King Charles for his 'openness and honesty' in using his 'unique position' to highlight how the disease can impact anybody.
NHS England chief executive Amanda Pritchard said: “Finding out you have cancer can be very daunting – we hope King Charles’s treatment goes well.
“As ever, if you have any symptoms or signs of cancer, please do come forward for checks.”
In a statement, His Majesty said: "I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.
"As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.
"It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world. My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience."
