In April 2026, Swifties barely had time to blink before a mysterious new countdown appeared – and vanished – from Taylor Swift’s official website. And after that, the internet went into full‑blown detective mode. The briefly live timer came wrapped in a very familiar sky‑blue, cloud‑covered backdrop that looked straight out of Andy’s bedroom, sending Toy Story 5 rumours rocketing across timelines.

Now, a month later, and Taylor has confirmed she has in fact recorded a new song for the highly-anticipated film, due out in a couple of weeks. Taking to social media to share several pics, the singer wrote: 'It’s a Toy Story 🤠

'You knew it! My new original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Disney and @pixar’s @toystory 5 will be yours on June 5th. I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie. I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?

'You can pre-order now exclusively on my site and catch Toy Story 5 in theaters June 19th ☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️'. (sic)

Within just 13 hours, the post had attracted more than 5 million likes on Instagram and 5 million views on X, with fans leaving comments such as: 'A Taylor Swift song for Toy Story was not on my bingo card, but now I need to hear it immediately.' Another wrote: 'Taylor Swift + Toy Story 5 was not on my 2026 bingo card… but now I need this immediately. 😭✨'.

What is the song called?

The new song Taylor Swift has announced for Toy Story 5 is called 'I Knew It, I Knew You'.

When is it out?

Toy Story 5 is heading to cinemas on 19th June 2026. That date also marks 20 years since Taylor released her debut single, 'Tim McGraw', a coincidence that didn't go unnoticed in fan circles.

Taylor's song has now been confirmed to be released ahead of the film, on Friday 5th June 2026.

A look back at the clues of a Taylor Swift x Toy Story 5 collab

Website timer

For a short window on 30th April 2026, Taylor’s official site quietly swapped its usual homepage for a full‑screen countdown clock. The timer was set to run down to 1pm CT / 2pm. ET on 2nd May, giving fans a 48‑hour window to panic, speculate and frantically screenshot. According to reports, the countdown was only live for roughly 10 minutes before it disappeared as suddenly as it arrived, leaving the rest of the site looking business as usual again.

What really sent Swifties into overdrive was the design - against the ticking numbers sat a blue sky scattered with puffy white clouds that looked unmistakably Toy Story‑inspired. Fans stormed the comments section with theories, with one user writing: 'That would be two days before Toy Story 5 is released and two days before the 20th anniversary of Taylors first single. I don’t get into clowning, but I need to know what’s going on 😭'. (sic)

Another quipped: 'My weird theory is that the manager for Taylor’s site also manages Pixar’s site and they put the countdown up on the wrong page 😂', while a third chimed: 'Taylor Swift dropping a banger for Toy Story 5. That's Andys room wallpaper.' (sic)

Taylor's blue and white dress

Around the same time as the timer, Taylor had been photographed in a blue and white dress (pictured below) that echoed the same colour scheme as Toy Story.

TS billboards

Across America billboards appeared with the letters TS, written in the distinctive Toy Story font, however there were 13 clouds on the billboards, hinting towards Taylor Swift - whose lucky number is 13.

Spotify and Apple Music artwork changed

Streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music tweaked some of their Taylor Swift artwork slightly. The birds in the background of her album '1989' are now clouds on Spotify and the typeface for the album on Apple Music has been changed yellow, mirroring Toy Story's.

What is Toy Story 5 about?

Pixar, the studio behind Toy Story 5 describes the film as 'Toy meets Tech', with Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang seeing their jobs as toys challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today - electronics. In other words, our familiar favourites are about to go head‑to‑head with screens, gadgets and a new generation of smart toys.

The film is directed by Pixar studio vet Andrew Stanton, co‑directed by Kenna Harris and produced by Lindsey Collins. Trailers released by Disney and Pixar show the crew navigating a world where a sleek, tablet‑style newcomer threatens to redefine playtime, underlining that classic Toy Story question... what happens to old‑school toys when the next big thing arrives?
