Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson shocked her fans back in January, revealing she's expecting twins with her boyfriend Zion Foster later in the year. Since the cute social media announcement, Jesy has posted a number of photos of herself and her bump looking beautiful, and now she's given fans a major update on the health of her unborn babies.

After revealing the news at the beginning of March that she's having mono/di twins (Monochorionic Diamniotic), meaning both of her babies are living off one placenta, Jesy later confirmed she needed an emergency procedure in an attempt to save her babies.

Taking to Instagram on Mother's Day to provide an update, Jesy revealed the amazing news that the procedure was a success.

With a smile on her face, Jesy told her followers: "Hi guys, so we just wanted to give you an update because we know it's been a while. First of all we want to say a Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing and strong mums out there. And secondly, we are still in hospital, so I've been recovering.

"But, we have some amazing news. The TTTS has cleared up, the operation was a success which is just absolutely incredible. We are so, so, lucky to have the most amazing doctors. Basically, the situation that we're in now is my cervix is very, very, short, so I can't leave the hospital because my waters could break at any point and I'm still very, very, early."

She then added: "So yeah, I can't leave the hospital until I'm a certain amount of weeks. Every week we're praying that the babies stay in my belly but yeah, we are just so grateful that they are still here and they're still growing strong and we're just so grateful."

In the video, Jesy's partner Zion announced he's decided to run the London Marathon in an attempt to raise both money and awareness of charity Twins Trust.

He said: "We're in such a blessed, blessed, situation to even be able to make this video and share this good news."

Jesy and Zion first informed their fans of the situation at the beginning of March, saying: "We wanted to let you in on our journey of what we’ve been going through. So we are having identical twins which is so exciting – we cannot believe it."

However, 33-year-old Jesy went on to reveal she's having mono/di twins (Monochorionic Diamniotic), meaning both of her babies are living off one placenta.

She added tearfully: "But, unfortunately, there are complications that come with having identical twins. The type of twins we are having are called mono/di twins and so normally most twins will have two placentas that they feed off of.

"But when you have mono/di twins, that means your twins live off one placenta which can lead to lots of complications – one of them being one baby might take all the nutrients which, and it’s really awful to say, but could lead to both babies dying."

Going on to discuss her own health, the 'Boyz' singer added: "I am currently pre-stage TTTS which is twin-to-twin transfusion and I am being monitored very closely and I have to go and be scanned twice a week.

"The current situation is that every time I’ve gone it has got a little bit worse but we are just hoping and praying for the best. It’s just really sad that it does come with these complications.

"We had no clue that this kind of thing happens when you have twins.

"We just really wanna raise awareness about this, because there are so many people who don’t know about this."

After seeing Jesy and Zion's video, fans and friends of the singer were quick to comment and send their support, with many detailing their own experiences of having mono/di twins.

One wrote: 'I had mono di twins too, all fine born 35 weeks and now healthy 11 year old boys ❤️', with another adding: 'I was pre TTTS with my MCDA twin girls too, it was the most scary time of my life. They are now 6 year old healthy little girls sending you lots of love'. (sic)

A third wrote: 'This happened to me. My twins had twin to twin transfusion. They had a 30% chance of survival. We're born 5 weeks early. They are now 30 and are 6ft5'. (sic)

Others thanked the pair for raising awareness, with one person writing: 'I had no idea about this. Thank you for raising awareness and sending you so much love and strength. You’ll all get through this'.

Another wrote: 'I couldn’t love you more for raising awareness. You are so strong 🤍'. (sic)

Just a few days after the initial update, Jesy and Zion posted another video to Instagram, this time from a hospital room. Jesy confirmed her symptoms had worsened, meaning doctors were now going to go through with the procedure.

She said in the video: “I’ve been feeling a bit poorly, like the past few days, been having a few of the symptoms that I need to watch out for, which is like my belly tightening, struggle breathing. So today we came into the hospital to just have a check-up, basically, just in case.

“And unfortunately, the symptoms have got worse, so they have to perform the procedure, which is obviously not what we wanted to happen, but it’s necessary because it’s going to give our babies the best chance of surviving. We’re just waiting to go in and we’re just hoping and praying for the best really.

“I feel gutted. I feel absolutely gutted because I really was hoping that we wouldn’t even be in this position. That’s why they do this procedure, so that it literally gives you the best chance of your baby surviving, but it’s obviously just really scary, because there’s so many things that can happen.”

What are mono/di twins?

According to the NHS, Monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins share a single placenta but have their own separate sacs. If the twins are MCDA, the mother can expect more scans and monitoring, as this type of twins has the highest risk of twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which is an abnormality of the placenta.

Jesy first announced she was pregnant back in January, sharing a photo to show off her bump alongside her boyfriend Zion.

She captioned the shot with: 'She’s eating for 3 now 👶👶'. (sic)
