Pop star Camila Cabello might be known for her hits songs such as 'Havana' and 'Señorita' with Shawn Mendes, but she is also an ambassador for Save The Children. The international charity that helps vulnerable children around the world, has now honoured Camila for her work and presented her with the Voice Award.
The singer, who has been an Ambassador since November 2018, has been recognised for her continued effort as a leader, 'in shaping the future of philanthropy by speaking up on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable children.'
Just a month before becoming an Ambassador for the charity, Camila visited Puerto Rica, which had been devastated by Hurricane María. She performed her first concert in the country, and also took the opportunity to visit Save the Children’s programs in the region.
Speaking about her visit, Camila said, "Visiting different parts of Puerto Rico, I got to personally see how much work still needs to be done to help communities rebuild and recover from the storm."
Camila went on to donate a portion of the proceeds from her concert at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico to Save the Children’s Hurricane María Relief Fund.
After receiving the prestigious award, Camila recalled the time she spent in Puerto Rica saying, "I didn’t know what to expect. I saw and read the news reports about the challenges and difficulties these families were facing. I was there a year after Hurricane María struck and I could still see its effects everywhere."
The Cuba-born singer went on to explain what it was like when she met some of the families, "Despite everything these families went through, they remained strong and hopeful. Their number one priority was making sure their kids were safe, healthy and back in school as soon as possible. Save the Children was there for them."
Camila finished off her acceptance speech revealing her pledge to raise $250,000 to Save the Children.
