Jacqueline McGrew, a 76-year-old woman, visited her neighbor on Devon Road on June 14, last year at around 2pm. Before entering the neighbour's garden, she checked if any dogs were outside by listening at the gate.

However, upon entering the garden, she was attacked from behind by a large Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

The dog bit her face, head, arms, hand, and back, and only stopped when sprayed with a hosepipe.

Jacqueline had to undergo surgery on her head, suffered a broken nose, and had impaired vision in her right eye for a week. She was released from the hospital after 14 days.

David Wilson, who owned the dog, was charged with being in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control and caused injury.

He pleaded guilty to the offense in Burnley Magistrates Court on Wednesday (29th March) and will be sentenced in Blackburn Magistrates Court on May 3.

The dog was destroyed after the incident.
