Man rescued after small boat catches fire off Cornish coast

A man has been rescued after a small boat caught fire off the Cornish coast.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon (24 April).

In a statement, The Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard responded to reports of a small vessel on fire in waters east of St Anthony's Head, Cornwall, at about 2.05pm on 24 April.

"Two RNLI lifeboats were sent from Falmouth as well as an HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter. Portscatho Coastguard Rescue Team was also sent.

"One man was recovered from the water by a passing vessel from where he was airlifted by the helicopter to Newquay for transfer to hospital by ambulance. There was no one else reported on the burning vessel and no one is reported missing.

"Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and Devon and Cornwall Police were alerted."
