UPDATE: Bristol scrapyard fire started "accidentally"

Crews were called out to a site in the St Werburgh's area of the city

It's been confirmed a fire yesterday afternoon (Saturday 14th December) in Bristol was started accidentally.

Crews were sent to New Gatton Road at 2.20pm, and found a "well-developed fire in an area containing approximately seven tonnes of scrap metal, including scrap household appliances."

This morning, Avon Fire and Rescue has said: "The fire was extinguished by approximately 6:30pm last night (14th December).

"The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental."

A fire has broken out in several scrap metal warehouses in Bristol, sending smoke into the skies above the city.

Firefighters were called to New Gatton Road in the St Werbugh's area of the city at around 2.20pm this afternoon (Saturday 14th December).

Five crews have been working at the scene. There are no road closures in place and no reports of casualties.

Residents and drivers who are close to the scene are being urged to close their windows due to the smoke.
