Snapchat will be changing after 1.25 million sign a petition

Users aren't happy!

Earlier this year Snapchat made some major changes to its app and users around the world weren't happy to say the least. The changes included splitting your friends and family from businesses, as well as updating the friends, stories and discover sections.

Even the likes of Kylie Jenner, Chrissy Teigen and Snapchat legend Phillip Schofield didn't like the changes and were very vocal in letting their fans know.

After the changes Phillip Schofield tweeted, 'Grrrrrr @Snapchat 😡😡'

Then a few days later reality TV star Kylie Jenner tweeted her unhappiness with the update saying, 'sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me... ugh this is so sad.' sic

This tweet was bad news for Snapchat as Kylie is a very influential celebrity with more than 25.5 million followers. As a consequence Kylie's tweet caused Snapchat's stock performance to plummet dramatically.

According to reports, when Wall Street opened on the day of the tweet, Snap Inc was trading at around $18.50 a share, but by 2pm (after Kylie's tweet) it had fallen to just over $17 a share!

Now, following the continued unhappiness about the changes and a massive 1.25 million people signing a petition for it to be changed, the company's CEO Evan Spiegel has acknowledged the issue. He has now confirmed that Snapchat will tweak the redesign, by putting Stories on the right side of the app.

He said, "We learned that combining watching Stories and communicating with friends into the same place made it harder to optimise for both competing behaviours."

He went on to confirm they are "currently rolling out an update to address this by sorting communication by recency and moving Stories from friends to the right side of the application."

So, whilst it isn't a complete reversal, these changes could be an improvement on what we have at the moment.

Snapchat's executives did acknowledge that the new design has hit their results, but they said they would be sticking with 'the plan', which they say they believe will propel growth in the long run.

Evan continued, "The redesign lays the foundation for the future of both our communication products and our media platform, and we look forward to doubling down on both."

"A change this big to existing behaviour comes with some disruption".

Meanwhile, despite the changes to the app it is possible for users to get the old Snapchat back, on both iPhone and Android devices.
