Final series of The Umbrella Academy is out now on Netflix
It's finally time!
It's fair to say that The Umbrella Academy upped the ante in season three, when we were all introduced to The Sparrow Academy as the gang were yet again faced with the end of the world. Well, now we are ready for the fourth and final season, with the final episodes dropping now!
When will the fourth season of Umbrella Academy be released?
The fourth and final instalment of the show landed on Netflix on 8th August 2024.
The Umbrella Academy season four teaser trailer:
Sharing the clip to the show's socials in May, bosses wrote: 'Itβs the final timeline. The Umbrella Academy Season 4 premieres August 8 on Netflix ππππ ' (sic), with the intense final season looking like it's shaping up to be a dramatic one.
Opening with the harrowing voice of Sir Reginald Hargreeves - played by Colm Feore - we hear his first introduction of his Umbrella Academy, saying: "Our world is changing. Has changed. There are some among us gifted with abilities far beyond the ordinary. I have adopted six such children."
Accompanied with dramatic shots of the much loved characters Viktor, Luther, Allison, Klaus and Diego Hargreeves, as well as Number Five, the voiceover continues: "I give you the inaugural class of The Umbrella Academy."
As fans of the show will know, season three welcomed back Ben Hargreeves - albeit, he didn't return quite as expected. Well, by the looks of things, Ben is back with his siblings for one final 'rescue mission' - with the final shot of the teaser showing him regain his powers.
Of course, the comments were flooded with messages of excitement, with one writing: 'One last adventure with the umbrellas πβοΈ', and another adding: 'BRELLIES I MISSED U'. (sic)
Following the tense cliff hanger that season three left us on, it's fair to say that fans can't wait for the hit show to make its return in August. The highly-anticipated release date was announced back in February, with the show's official Instagram writing: 'πΌπ―π£π΅οΈββοΈ | S4 of The Umbrella Academy returns August 8'. (sic)
When did they film the final season?
In February 2023, show bosses shared an exciting tease and confirmed that production had begun. Sharing a picture of the starring cast, Netflix took to Instagram to write: 'Itβs all been leading to this. The final season of The Umbrella Academy is now in production!'
With many fans heading to the comments to share their delight, many also expressed how much they were going to miss the show, along with its cast. One wrote: 'I'M NOT READY FOR THE END π', while another commented: 'Iβm gonna miss this cast so much!!!'. (sic)
A third also gushed: 'not ready to say goodbye π₯Ίπ₯Ί'. (sic)
In August 2022, showrunner Steven Blackman gave us all the news we had been waiting for - that season four was officially happening. Despite the good news, however, he did confirm that season four would officially be the last.
Sharing a photo of an umbrella silhouette with the number 4 on Instagram, he wrote: 'So excited for one more season with the incredible Hargreeves siblings!!!'
The Sparrow Academy actors shared their excitement over the news, with Cazzie David who plays Jayme saying: 'πππππ', while Justin Cornwell who plays Marcus said: 'Congrats maestro'.
The same photo was shared to the official Umbrella Academy Instagram account with the caption: 'Family meeting, Brellies: We're going on a fourth and final adventure. βοΈπ€'.
Justin H. Min who plays Ben in the series commented: 'hug us as we go', while Emmy Raver-Lampman commented: 'β€οΈ'.
What will happen in the last season?
Steven revealed more about what's next for The Umbrella Academy in a press release, saying: "I'm so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings' journey we began five years ago.
"But before we get to that conclusion, we've got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes."
This came after he spoke to TheWrap about deciding when to end the show. He told them: "I think at a certain point, I'm not sure where we'd go after season 4. My plan for next year is not to continually tread on the same ground we have before. It's a challenge to come up with a new way to subvert this storyline, and I think we have an idea how to do that.
"I'm not saying I couldn't do more, but you know, I think that would be very satisfying for the audience, four seasons."
Who will be in season four of The Umbrella Academy?
They may be one of the most dysfunctional families of all time, but fans have grown to love watching Viktor (Elliott Page), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David CastaΓ±eda), Five (Aidan Gallagher), and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), as they try to navigate all the mind-bending situations they find themselves in.
