Netflix UK have raised their prices once again, so your Netflix and chill will be more expensive from now on.

The streaming giant is increasing the price of their Basic plan (no longer available to new users) by £1, meaning it will rise from £6.99 per month to £7.99 per month.

The platform's Premium plan will also rise by £2, from £15.99 to £17.99 per month. To combat password sharing, Netflix also charges £4.99 a month to share passwords with another household.

The cost of the ad-supported and 'standard' Netflix subscriptions will remain unchanged at the moment, with the ad-supported subscription starting at £4.99 per month.

Why is Netflix going up?

This is the first time since March 2022 that Netflix have raised their prices. Last year, they explained: "Our updated prices reflect the investment we have made in our service and catalogue, and will allow us to continue making the series, documentaries and films our members love as well as investing in talent and the creative industry."

However, this year, according to Sky News, Netflix have reported nine million households have signed up worldwide between July and September 2023, which is the biggest surge since during the lockdowns of 2020.

The streaming giant is also expecting to add another nine million subscribers in the next three months, in the run up to Christmas, with huge hits such as Top Boy and The Crown available through the service.
