MAFS Australia fans slam Tim's treatment of wife Katie
He wasn't happy with his match
Last updated 7th Mar 2025
We may only be four episodes into the 2025 series of Married At First Sight Australia here in the UK, but already the show has served some huge drama. Within the first week, viewers have witnessed two couples being matched that have previously dated, a run-a-way groom, and some adorable vows.
But one couple that have left viewers talking is Katie Johnstone and Tim Gromie, who were matched by the experts and married during episode two.
Despite 37-year-old Katie being happy with her husband at first sight, the same couldn't be said for 38-year-old Tim, who immediately expressed his concerns to producers after the wedding ceremony.
Unbeknownst to Katie, Tim told producers his new wife was "totally not what he wanted," before going on to make their wedding photoshoot incredibly awkward.
Following the lack of affection and effort on their wedding day, Katie and Tim agreed to stay in different rooms, but Tim later asked his new bride for a chat off camera, where he confessed she wasn't the 'usual type of girl' he'd go for.
Speaking to the camera following their private chat, Katie tearfully said: "He said, 'there's no spark, I wasn't feeling a spark all day'. To be rejected, that's my worst nightmare. I don't know what I've done wrong or why this keeps happening, I feel really humiliated."
Despite the poor start, Katie and Tim did both agree to go on their honeymoon to Tasmania, but viewers were left disgusted at his comments and behaviour to her during dinner, where he told her he would have preferred a "petite, blonde, short girl."
Later on in the episode, the pair had another intense chat, where Tim tried to tell Katie it wasn't all about 'looks', but she refused to believe his words and ended up walking off in floods of tears, calling the match a 'disaster'.
After seeing the scenes unfold, viewers took to social media to express their anger and frustration.
One wrote: 'Tim. Yet another Aussie bloke that has a vastly over-inflated idea of himself. Katie is a stunning, vibrant, intelligent woman - she shouldn't be wasting her energy on this unappealing dullard'.
Another added: 'Tim is unbearable poor Katie! 💔', with a third writing: 'Wanna give katie from mafs the biggest hug, knew she was in trouble when tim pulled out the "nice guys finish last" line which immediately means he isn't self aware or probably very nice at all'. (sic)
We will have to wait and see if Katie and Tim can turn things around as they return from their honeymoon and move in together for the experiment, but at the moment things aren't looking great for the pair.

Awhina and Adrian
Both twins, the experts matched 30-year-olds Awhina and Adrian.
Wedding day:
Although initial attraction was certainly there between the two, Awhina was a little taken-a-back when Adrian joked in his vows about not having children, being a mum herself. Unable to find the right moment to tell him she has a little boy, Awhina's step dad and mum broke the news in their speeches, which left Adrian and his family in shock. After discussing the matter in private, Adrian didn't exactly give Awhina the reassurance she was looking for.
Honeymoon:
Things started off well for the pair on their honeymoon, with Awhina and Adrian being intimate and very playful with each other. However, on the last night, things took an awkward turn when the subject of family came up. When given the honeymoon box by the experts, Adrian admitted he doesn't know how he feels that Awhina has experienced having her first child with somebody else, and revealed he doesn't know if he will be able to love her child as much as he would love his own. Taken aback by the comment, Awhina admitted it could be a big issue for the pair.

The pair were both keen to see how things panned out during the experiment.

As the wedding reception went on and she got to know Ryan more, Jacqui admitted the pair had a lot of things not in common, and she wasn't too thrilled about his choice of dog breed. However, Ryan seemed to pull Jacqui back round with his personal wedding speech, where she admitted she's now got a lot of hope for the pair's future.
First commitment ceremony:
Despite some issues, both Jacqui and Ryan chose to stay.
Second commitment ceremony:
Although they were up and down during intimacy week, both Jacqui and Ryan chose to stay.

Wedding day:
Things got off to a good start for Morena and Tony, who seemed very pleased upon seeing each other for the first time. During the reception, Morena's children made a lovely speech, where they told Tony to treat their mum like the 'Queen she is', something Tony agreed he would do. There was a little tension with Tony's cousin at the wedding, who confessed he thought Tony should have been matched with a younger woman, but Tony seemed to dismiss his claims, telling him Morena is a 'beautiful woman'.

Wedding day:
Ash and Jake immediately hit it off at the altar, with the pair seemingly getting on from the moment they clocked eyes on each other. Although there was a few moments of silence at the ceremony, it looks like this match will be a success!
Honeymoon:
The pair had zero issues on their honeymoon, getting to know each other more and sharing lots of laughs together.
First commitment ceremony:
Whilst Ash chose to stay, Jake chose to leave admitting he doesn't trust his wife after she told the other brides about his comments during the photo ranking task. As per the rules, with one deciding to stay, the pair continued in the experiment. Packing his bags the following morning, Ashleigh was therefore also forced to leave.

First commitment ceremony:
Following a disastrous experiment, both Katie and Tim chose to leave.
Lauren and Eliot - LEFT
37-year-old Lauren was matched with 35-year-old Eliot.
Wedding day:
Despite Eliot admitting to the camera he would walk out of the ceremony if he didn't find his bride attractive, luckily for Lauren he was pleased with the match. The pair seemed to get on well, and despite Lauren's sister Tamara causing problems throughout the wedding reception, Lauren and Eliot seemed to have an initial spark.
Honeymoon:
The day after the wedding, Eliot seemed to have a full change of heart and continued to slam the experts for giving him a bride who didn't match what he asked for. Eliot refused to take part in the experiment and decided to leave the show, leaving Lauren behind.
Married At First Sight Australia continues every Monday-Thursday on E4.
