Selena Gomez set to work on new series based on 80s film Sixteen Candles
This should be good!
'Bad Liar' singer Selena Gomez is developing a new TV series according to Deadline. The publication has revealed that the singer, who has also worked as a producer on Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, will now take on the role of executive producer on 15 Candles, a re-imagination of the 80s rom com Sixteen Candles.
The series, which will appear on NBC's streaming service Peacock, is called 15 Candles. It is set to be a single-camera comedy about: "four young Latinas in high school, navigating feelings of invisibility, while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind as quinceañera season approaches."
Quinceañera means a celebration of a girl's 15th birthday, similar to sweet 16, but of course the year before.
For those who haven't seen the original film, Sixteen Candles, it's a coming-of-age comedy about a high school girl called Samantha (played by Molly Ringwald) who turns 16. However, despite what should be an exciting day for the teenager, all of her family forget the occasion because her sister is due to get married the next day! Can you imagine?!
The original film also starred Michael Schoeffling (Mermaids), and Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club).
As well as being a talented singer, Selena has also worked as an executive producer on Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, and Living Undocumented which follows eight undocumented immigrant families living in the United States.
Back in the music world, Selena recently released a song with Coldplay called 'Let Somebody Go'.
All of the TV shows we can’t wait to return in 2022:
