McFly reveal the UNUSUAL way their reunion came about
They've announced their comeback album
McFly are BACK with a new single, 'Happiness', and a forthcoming album, 'Young Dumb Thrills', so Fleur East and James from Hits Radio Breakfast caught up with Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter, Tom Fletcher and Harry Judd, to find out what we can expect.
Speaking over Zoom, the boys told us how their reunion came about, and it might not be as you expected. Explaining to Fleur and James, Harry said, "It was last year when our manager got us all together and said, 'Look, this is getting ridiculous now, I've booked a night at the O2, who's in?'"
The dummer went on to recount how they were just in a hotel room when they all agreed to do this date at the O2, "So that was the thing that gave us a target, played the O2 last year, then put on a tour for this year, and then when we were in rehearsals we just agreed, let's just get in the studio in January, to keep the momentum going!"
Harry then told how they thought it would be great if they could do four or five songs, but they came away with a whole album!
Revealing that their album was fully recorded between January and March the band also told us what we can expect from their new music. It's been a whole decade since they last released an album, and we really wanted to know if we can expect the classic McFly sound, or something new.
Dougie confessed, "It's hard to fit into one genre, it definitely has a pop sensibility, but we were really open to pretty much any approach to making a song."
The bass guitarist went on to reveal that the early part of this year when they were in the studio recording was, "Honestly one of the most favourite times in the band."
"I still feel like it sounds like us, but it's explored different routes," Dougie explained.
