Maisie Peters joined Sam Thompson on his Hits UK show where she chatted about her Number 1 album 'The Good Witch', playing at Glastonbury and having dinner with none other than Ed Sheeran.
Aged 23, Maisie became the youngest British solo artist in nine years to score a Number 1 album when 'The Good Witch' hit the top spot of the chart. Maisie recalled the moment she found out the good news, which she instantly shared with her housemates.
She said: "When I first found it out I was in Sweden, and I got a knock on my door and I open it and it's all my band and crew. My manager had flown in secretly and he hadn't told me and he had the Number 1 thing.
"I just FaceTimed loads of people, I FaceTimed my housemates and they were like, 'Oh my God this is so fun, this is the one thing for our house that we can't buy.'"
The album helped Maisie to process her emotions after experiencing a breakup - with her single 'Lost The Breakup' having multiple meanings for Maisie. She explained: "I love that song because it comes from a place of sadness and heartbreak but it's also really joyous and really fun and now I love singing that song.
"It makes me smile every time because I'm like, 'I don't feel like that anymore.' So it was perfect for me back then, it's perfect for me now, if I get broken up with again it will be perfect for me then.
"It's amazing to be able to document your life in the way that I did on this album. It's the most special thing to have this album that vividly reflects the last year of my life and the things I was feeling and experiencing."
2023 has been an amazing year for Maisie so far. In addition to achieving a Number 1 album, she also performed at Glastonbury and is about to embark on an American tour before playing a series of UK dates, culminating in a concert at Wembley Arena in November.
Maisie added: "I’ve always wanted to go to Glastonbury, I’ve always wanted to play it. I think if you grow up as a British kid, it's just part of your life. I’d never been but you watch it on TV and I remember watching Coldplay on TV and I'd seen old sets of Amy Winehouse, Jay-Z. It’s so iconic. This year it worked out amazingly that it was the day my album came out. I played the Pyramid Stage, I met Dave Grohl."
Maisie was signed by Ed Sheeran's label Gingerbread Records in 2021 and supported Ed on tour in 2022. Speaking to Sam, Maisie opened up about her friendship with Ed and said: "I had dinner there a while ago. They all come on tour with Ed, so his wife Cherry and their kids are always about on tour. It's true family vibes - baby in one arm, toddler in another."
