James Arthur, the singer behind 'Blindside', joined Sam Thompson on Hits UK to talk about his latest song and how he almost abandoned it.

'Blindside' is James' latest release, and is a song about heartbreak. Speaking to Sam, James explained more about why he nearly didn't carry on writing the song.

"I wanted to do an up tempo track that that encompassed like the sort of the things that were inspiring me at the time," James explained. "I was listening to a lot of Americana style, like (Bruce) Springsteen, that kind of stuff and I wanted to kind of encompass that in the song."

He continued: "But in terms of the lyrical content, it's a heartbreak thing. It's a cry dance, sort of, you know, you can cry to it. I hope it's a bop, but yeah, it's a weird process actually, cause I kind of freestyled the whole thing in the booth.

"It was one that we almost kind of abandoned. I guess we were thinking like ‘is this… have we got something here’ and I just kind of said: ‘Well let me just go and try and scatter a few melodies and see what happens’ and came up with that phrase ‘blind side’ and wrote a song about how sometimes we're blindsided by love, and you know it doesn't work out for whatever reason, and then you've got to kind of love, the ghost of that person.

“It's it feels like a cool sort of mesh of two things, you know, sad innit.”

'Blindside' is out now, and is believed to be featured on James' upcoming album, which he has yet to name.

Sam asked James about his fifth album and he is VERY excited for its release. He told Sam: "I am genuinely more excited about this bunch of music than anything I've ever done before, because I think I feel like the whole album is just wall-to-wall great tunes."

We can't wait to hear James' new music!
