It's been a massive eight years since Bruno Mars' 'Grenade' reached the top spot in the US charts, but instead of celebrating the event, the pop star decided to throw some shade at his OWN lyrics!

The singer replied to a Twitter account announcing the achievement by saying, 'But how did I know her eyes were open?'.

If you need a reminder of the lyrics to Bruno's 2010 single they are, ‘Should’ve known you was trouble from the first kiss / Had your eyes wide open / Why were they open?’

The response by the pop star caused quite a stir on Twitter, with a massive 49K likes and over 1000 replies to his tweet. Many fans replied with funny responses, one fan tweeted, '🤣 you just now worried about it? She’s moved on', with another saying, 'Idk maybe write a grenade 2.0 to explain ?'. sic

Of course, it was all tongue-in-cheek and we're pretty sure no one has really thought that in depth about the lyrics.

Bruno co-wrote 'Grenade' along with Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine, Brody Brown, Claude Kelly and Andrew Wyatt, and it went on to be nominated for three GRAMMYs, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Unfortunately despite its popularity it failed to pick up the awards in any of the nominated categories.

Now take a look at some misheard song lyrics:

He sings: "I'm too hot, make a dragon wanna retire man".

Whilst it's been a whole year since we've heard any new music from Bruno - he released 'Finesse' with Cardi B last January - we did see him being serenaded on his birthday by none other than Ed Sheeran! As Ed Sheeran sang and played his guitar, Bruno could be seen tucking into a plate full of a big birthday cake and cupcakes! Lucky guy!

Despite making a name for himself as Bruno Mars, his real name is Peter Gene Hernandez.
