Just a few days after the death of one of the most popular and successful dance music DJs, Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, his family have released a heartbreaking statement.
The statement read,
"We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother. We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs.
Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honour Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world.
We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way.
With love,
The Tim Bergling Family"
The release of this statement comes after a weekend full of tributes to the Swedish DJ from around the world. Fellow dance DJ Kygo paid tribute at Coachella on Friday night, playing his favourite Avicii track after a short speech, where he called him his "biggest inspiration".
Church bells in the Dutch city of Utrecht played out some of Avicii's biggest hits including, 'Wake Me Up', 'Without You' and 'Hey Brother'.
And in his home country of Sweden, fans gathered in the capital Stockholm to play out his songs. The moment was captured by a number of fans who posted it on social media.
On Friday 20th April the sad news of Avicii's death was announced via a statement released by his representative Diana Baron. The statement read, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Tributes to the popular DJ were led by Calvin Harris who said, 'Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do. My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim x'.
Other tweets posted by celebrities and DJs called Avicii an 'inspiration' and 'talented'.
Just last year Rita Ora collaborated with Avicii on their single 'Lonely Together', she took to Twitter to explain how she was feeling after hearing the sad news, 'I have no words. I remember how amazing it was to make Lonely Together and it felt like just yesterday we were talking. Condolences to Avicii's family, friends, and the fans who supported him. May he rest in peace. Gone too soon. I’m devastated. Heartbroken' she tweeted.
Our thoughts are with Avicii's friends, family and fans at this difficult time.
