Pop star Adele has taken to Instagram to share a message of support to her best friend Laura Dockrill, who has recently spoken out about postpartum psychosis. Laura is mother to Adele's six-month-old godson.

The 'Hello' singer shared a photo of herself with her friend to her 32.6 million followers, saying, 'This is my best friend. We have been friends for more of our lives than we haven’t. She had my beautiful godson 6 months ago and it was the biggest challenge of her life in more ways than one. She has written the most intimate, witty, heartbreaking and articulate piece about her experience of becoming a new mum and being diagnosed with postpartum psychosis. Mamas talk about how you’re feeling because in some cases it could save yours or someone else’s life x Link in my bio to Laura’s story.'

Since posting the photo, it has attracted more than one million likes in less than a day and received many encouraging comments from her fans such as, 'Glad she is feeling better, depression is a tough thing to deal with. Here’s to health and happiness for the whole family!', 'More people need to know about this! Thank you for sharing @adele.' and 'Thank you for this!!!'.

Following the link in Adele's bio takes fans to a very frank and open post about Laura's postpartum psychosis. Posted as a list of bullet points, Laura explains how she told her partner, 'Something’s not right with me, I don’t know what it is but I’m not ok.'

She goes on to explain, 'I refused to believe I had Post Natal Depression because I didn’t feel 'depressed.''

Laura then explains how, with help and support from her friends and family, 'an incredible psychiatrist, medication...and psychotherapy I am healed and recovering more and more each day', and now she is 'happy, confident and strong'.

Adele, who herself is a mum-of-one, has previously spoken about her experiences with post natal depression, telling Vanity Fair back in 2016 that she felt like she had made "the worst decision" of her life. She went on to explain she "loves her son more than anything", but she really struggled when she became a mum for the first time.
