Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans, you might want to limber up those chanting muscles. A familiar face from the Nine-Nine has been dropping just enough hints online to send the fandom into full detective mode.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine reboot rumours first kicked off after Hitchcock actor Dirk Blocker started posting some very pointed nostalgia on Instagram on 23rd March. First, Dirk shared a photo with his on-screen partner Joel McKinnon Miller (Scully), teasing that "the sexiest duo MIGHT be back", complete with a Brooklyn Nine-Nine hashtag.

Three days later on 26th March, Dirk followed up with another teaser showcasing more cast members in a very candid photo, writing: 'Are you guys ready for this? You know exactly what to do … FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT (at your discretion) soon' #brooklyn99. (sic)

Nothing is officially confirmed, but the latest social media breadcrumbs are tantalising enough to make a return trip to Brooklyn suddenly feel possible again.

Is a Brooklyn Nine-Nine reboot happening?

So far, there’s been no official word from NBC, Fox or the show’s creators about a green-lit reboot, revival or spin-off. There are also some concerns around Andre Braugher’s death and Melissa Fumero’s commitment to CBS drama Einstein, which make a full-blown return of the original ensemble unlikely right now.

However, some reports envision a Terry-led squad or even a Hitchcock and Scully prequel as more realistic ways to expand the universe if these teases ever turn into something more concrete.

What is Brooklyn Nine-Nine about?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a comedy set in the fictional 99th precinct of the NYPD in Brooklyn, following a squad of detectives under newly appointed Captain Raymond Holt.

The series focuses on talented but immature detective Jake Peralta, his ambitious partner Amy Santiago, no-nonsense Rosa Diaz, nervous family man Terry Jeffords, food-obsessed Charles Boyle, chaotic civilian administrator Gina Linetti and perpetually slacking veterans Hitchcock and Scully.

Across its eight seasons, the show blends workplace hijinks, character-driven storylines and running gags (including the iconic Halloween Heists) with occasional forays into weightier subjects such as police accountability and social issues.

When did it first premiere?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine premiered in the US on 17th September 2013. The single-camera comedy originally aired on Fox, which ordered an initial batch of episodes before expanding the first season to 22.

After five seasons, Fox cancelled the show in May 2018, prompting a swift fan outcry and social media campaign that helped NBC step in to rescue it the very next day. NBC went on to air three more seasons, with the eighth and final run debuting on 12th August 2021.

Who was in the cast?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s main ensemble is led by Andy Samberg as gifted but juvenile detective Jake Peralta, working under the deadpan leadership of Andre Braugher’s Captain Raymond Holt. Melissa Fumero portrays Amy Santiago, with Stephanie Beatriz as detective Rosa Diaz and Joe Lo Truglio as loyal best friend Charles Boyle.

Terry Crews plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords, while Chelsea Peretti portrays civilian administrator Gina Linetti. Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller round out the squad as lazily legendary partners Hitchcock and Scully.

Where can I watch it?

While sometimes available on Netflix, it is not consistently streaming on the platform in the UK, and can otherwise be found on NOW TV.
