In recent years, The Royal Mint have been releasing some exciting new designs of 50p coins, and the latest design doesn't disappoint! The Royal Mint has just announced three different designs, all featuring dinosaurs - Megalosaurus, Iguanodon and Hylaeosaurus.
The new coins AREN'T available through general circulation and have been released as limited-edition gold and silver proofs, colour-printed silver proof, colour-printed brilliant uncirculated and standard brilliant uncirculated edition. They're already proving very popular with a queuing system in place for The Royal Mint's website within minutes of the new design being announced.
The prices range from £10 - £65 per coin.
These dinosaurs were discovered by British Anatomist Richard Owen, and the latest 50p design celebrates their discovery. Designed by palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, with the expert guidance of the Earth Sciences Department of the Natural History Museum.
Last year, The Royal Mint released Wallace & Gromit design, with creator of Wallace & Gromit, Nick Park, saying, "When A Grand Day Out was first screened thirty years ago, we never expected for Wallace & Gromit to become such a long-standing, well-loved series around the world. It's been an honour to work with The Royal Mint to bring the pair to life in a new way".
