Scrubs: How to watch the popular rebooted medical comedy series

After nearly 16 years away from our screens, the staff at Sacred Heart finally scrubbed back in for a reboot series in 2026, giving us the chance to see JD, Elliot, Turk, and Carla walking those iconic hospital halls again!

With a second season due out soon and the main cast firmly back in their roles, original fans were over the moon to see that they still had that magic that made the show unmissable. When was the Scrubs reboot on TV?

The revival of Scrubs became available to watch on Disney+ in the UK in February 2026, with season two due to arrive at the beginning of October 2026.

After posting a teaser of the reboot in mid-January 2026, ABC/Hulu have followed up with an official trailer of the series revival and it's as if they never left or indeed, changed.

The trailer shows training a new generation of interns turns out to be a bad idea when the supervising doctors haven’t learned much themselves. Doctor Cox (John C. McGinley) admits he's "not sure" how to teach the new kids.

One British intern admits to getting "a little woozy around some procedures" and can’t steady his hand with a needle; while another nicks an artery, sending blood shooting skyward. The doctors may be older, but they're still none the wiser, and we are here for it.

Which characters are in the reboot?

Fans were THRILLED to know the fab four, JD (Zach Braff), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), Turk (Donald Faison) and Carla (Judy Reyes) were ALL back, with Dr Cox (John C McGinley), Janitor (Neil Flynn) and Christa Miller's Jordan also reprising their roles.

Notably absent from the lineup was original cast member Ken Jenkins, who portrayed Bob Kelso throughout all nine seasons. Ken, now 86 and retired from acting, did not appear in season one of the revival. However, he is expected to return for season two, according to Deadline.

"Dr. Kelso will be back next year", said Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence. "It just didn’t work out this year but it will next year."

Sadly, Sam Lloyd, who played hapless lawyer Ted, passed away in 2020 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The O.C. star Rachel Bilson also guest starred in the new series as potential JD love interest Charlie. The pair previously worked together on 2006 film The Last Kiss.

How the reboot paid tribute to Sam Lloyd

The Scrubs revival honoured the memory of Sam, who played the perpetually downtrodden lawyer Ted Buckland throughout the show's original nine-season run.

In an Esquire interview, Zach shared the creative way they'd celebrated his legacy within the show itself.

"There's a new bar that we all go to, and we named it Lloyd's Tavern," Zach said. "That was the production designer's idea, which I thought was beautiful. So there's a nod to Sam."

He continued: "We love Sam; we miss him. It's hard to do this show without him. And our plan is to most definitely have an episode that is a tribute to him."

When was the reboot announced?

Officially announced in July 2025, the Scrubs Instagram page shared footage in November 2025 of the lead cast filming the reboot, alongside the caption: 'Here we go 🎥'. The popular cast members were seen in the video holding a piece of paper that read 'NOW IN PRODUCTION'.

It confirmed years of speculation that there was more of the popular medical comedy to come.

The Scrubs cast, along with the show's creator Bill Lawrence reunited on stage at the ATX TV Festival back in 2022, telling fans they were very keen to do a reboot.

Cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes and Neil Flynn, along with Bill were all asked who wants to do a reboot and surprisingly they didn't hold back from a resounding "yes".

"I think we all want it," Donald, who played Turk in the hit series said at the time. He continued: "We all would love to work together again. It’s just that it’s really hard. Everyone is doing things."

Then, gesturing towards Bill he said: "This dude’s never going to be free again." With Zach comparing a sequel without Bill to an ET sequel without Steven Spielberg.

The creator of the popular medical comedy-drama told fans: "We’re gonna do it because we’re lucky enough that people care".

"Top to bottom, we enjoy spending time with each other. If you ever have an excuse to work with people that you’d want to spend time with anyways, run to it… It’s worth it to me to see Neil back in that jumpsuit again."

To which Neil replied: "It’s not a jumpsuit, it’s a shirt and pants!" Neil played The Janitor in the series, who practically lived in his 'iconic' outfit.

Scrubs was on air for nine seasons across nine years, starting in 2001, it starred Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes.

During its run it received 17 Emmy nominations, winning Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Series (2005) and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation (2007). Zach Braff was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy category, for three years in a row in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Season two of the rebooted series is expected to arrive in the UK in early October 2026.
