Ruth Jones and James Nesbitt to star in next Harlan Coben drama Run Away
This is going to be huge!
Last updated 23rd Jan 2025
With the release of both Fool Me Once and Missing You in recent years, it appears award-winning writer Harlan Coben and streaming giant Netflix aren't slowing down with adaptations of his best-loved novels.
Just weeks after Missing You landed, Harlan has now confirmed the next novel to be turned into a drama series will be Run Away, and now we finally have some new details!
What is Run Away about?
Although Netflix are yet to release any plot details just yet, the blurb of Harlan's 2019 novel reads: 'You’ve lost your daughter. She’s addicted to drugs and to an abusive boyfriend. And she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want to be found.
'Then, by chance, you see her playing guitar in Central Park. But she’s not the girl you remember. This woman is living on the edge, frightened, and clearly in trouble.
'You don’t stop to think. You approach her, beg her to come home.
'She runs.
'And you do the only thing a parent can do: you follow her into a dark and dangerous world you never knew existed. Before you know it, both your family and your life are on the line. And in order to protect your daughter from the evils of that world, you must face them head on.'
Who is in the cast?
Harlan announced the first four stars cast for Run Away during an interview with BBC Breakfast on Tuesday 21st January.
Confirming James Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver and Alfred Enoch will all appear, he said: "We've got Jimmy Nesbitt, Minnie Driver, Ruth Jones...
"These are all novels I've written and they take place in New York and New Jersey for the most part but, there's something about that British sensibility and the American story and the amazing team we have here in the UK who have done all the shows...
"It's one of my favourite books so I'm really looking forward to it, it's a real family story..."
As fans will know, Northern Irish actor James is no stranger to appearing in Harlan's TV shows, he features in 2021's Stay Close and of course, the 2025 release Missing You. It will be a debut for Gavin and Stacey actress Ruth Jones, as well British-American actress Minnie Driver.
Further casting for the series is yet to be announced.
When is it out?
It seems no release date has been agreed just yet, but it sounds like Harlan would like to follow the same format as Fool Me Once and Missing You, telling BBC Breakfast they are hoping for 1st January 2026.
On 21st January 2025, Netflix confirmed Run Away is now in production.
How can I watch it?
Run Away will air on streaming platform Netflix.
Who is working on Run Away?
Harlan himself will once again act as an Executive Producer through his company Final Twist Productions, with Fool Me Once writer Danny Brocklehurst also working on the show.
