Love Island's Dejon releases statement about 'rollercoaster' journey
Viewers accused him of 'playing up to the cameras'
Dejon Noel-Williams, alongside fellow Islanders Harrison Solomon and Harry Cooksley, emerged as one of the most talked-about Islanders from Love Island series 12, mostly due to viewer backlash over his treatment of girlfriend Meg Moore.
After hitting it off from the start, Dejon and Meg coupled up during the first recoupling, but it didn't take long for his head to turn when certain bombshells came into the villa, with the 26-year-old continuously flirting and saying the pair were still 'open'.
Although they did eventually go 'exclusive' and then become official boyfriend and girlfriend in the villa, Dejon was met with criticism from viewers who accused him of making dismissive comments towards Meg, as well as being well aware that the cameras were on him at all times.
Despite Meg's mum and sister also warning her of Dejon's actions, she continued to support her boyfriend, and viewers were left even more uncomfortable during the final dates, where the couple argued throughout.
Meg and Dejon were then brutally dumped from the villa by their former Islanders just one day before the final, and despite admitting they can't wait to continue their relationship back in the UK, Dejon has now spoken about his time in the villa, and the reaction to his behaviour on the show.
Taking to his Instagram page, the personal trailer wrote: 'Thank you all for the love and support you've shown me during my time on Love Island & since I've come out of the villa. It's been such a rollercoaster, and while l've definitely had my fair share of hate, the amount of love and encouragement I've received has honestly been overwhelming in the best way.
'This whole experience has taught me so much about myself what I stand for, how I react under pressure, and how to handle the highs and lows. & I see how I communicated wasn't always the best and is something I'm definitely going to work on, It was definitely a learning journey, and I'm grateful for every part of it.
'Above all, it was the summer of my life. I found love, made lifelong friendships, and experienced moments I'll never forget. Thank you for riding this crazy wave with me, my supporters I see all your messages and they mean more than you could know I appreciate every single one of you. D' (sic)
During an appearance on Love Island: Aftersun last week, Dejon told host Maya Jama: "It was interesting the way that we got dumped, because I feel like the decisions were definitely… you kind of heard from both people's point of view.
"Some people saw bad things and some people saw good things. So it definitely made me in this time of being like reflect on my actions over the villa.
"Coming in, I just thought, I'm on Love Island. I'm gonna explore connections, I'm gonna be flirty, I'm gonna see what my strongest connection was.
"But in the back of my head, I always knew it was Meg, so I definitely see why that kind of… there's a lot of opinions about that, and I feel like I could have explored connections with being less flirty and stuff."
He added: "I definitely understand why people have their opinions regarding that, and even there's times that, honestly, she's stuck by me, and she tells me how she feels, and she stuck by me more than more than she should. More than I deserve a lot of times."
