If like us you were hooked on BBC Three dating show I Kissed A Boy in 2023, you were no doubt thrilled when bosses confirmed they were planning an all-female version, which aired in May 2024. Following the conclusion of the second instalment of I Kissed A Boy last year, BBC bosses confirmed I Kissed A Girl would be making a return in 2026.

Has it been cancelled?

However, in news which has left fans gutted ahead of the upcoming new series, the I Kissed A franchise has been cancelled by the BBC.

Revealing the show won't be returning for fifth series, a TV source told a national newspaper: “We are exceptionally proud of I Kissed A Boy/Girl, the UK’s first dating show for the LGBTQ+ community.

“We would like to thank our fabulous cupid Dannii Minogue and the entire team at Twofour for bringing the series to screen. Unfortunately, we have to make difficult choices in light of our funding challenges and there are no current plans for the show to return.”

Host Dannii Minogue has also now responded to the news, but she has hinted it may not be the total end for the show.

In a video posted to her Instagram page, Dannii said: “Lots of love, and I’m all right. TwoFour productions have put together this TV show and this series, and to the BBC, who put this groundbreaking television on air – I’m so happy to be part of it.

"This show makes me super proud because it’s a chance to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. We’ve had so many incredible cast members share their love, their lives and their stories as part of our show. Season four, featuring the girls, is not far off – you’ll get to see it shortly.”

Dannii then ended the video on a high, saying: “And who knows where the IK series will go from there? Ciao, bella.”

Before we say goodbye to the show, the good news is fans still have another series to look forward to, with I Kissed A Girl set to return in the coming months.
