After what feels like an eternity of waiting, the third and final series of Northern Irish comedy Derry Girls hits our screens on Tuesday 12th April.

Just weeks after bosses dropped the season three trailer on St Patrick's Day, they revealed the release date, and now the cast have been dropping some major hints about what fans can expect in the final instalment.

Actress Louisa Harland, who plays the role of Orla McCool in the sitcom, has hinted there will be some major special guests during a chat with the Radio Times.

Although she didn't name names, Louisa said: "I think people are going to lose their minds when they see who."

As well as some special guests, it's also been teased fans will see some familiar faces returning from the first two series, leaving fans very excited.

Series three picks up after Erin, Orla, Michelle, Clare, and James have sat their GCSEs, and it sounds like filming for the final series was certainly emotional.

Actress Nicola Coughlan, who plays Clare, said: "It was definitely bittersweet. It's sad to think that we'll never play these characters again, but at the same time you want to send it off in the right way, on a high.

"You don't want to drag it out, and we always knew that creator Lisa McGee wanted to take it up to the Good Friday Agreement.

"Also, it's about that particular time in their lives, so I don't think seeing them in ten years would be as fun, because they're all so different. So you want to say goodbye to them when they're still there, if that makes sense."

The third and final series of Derry Girls starts on Channel 4 on Tuesday 12th April.
