One Direction fans all over the world are celebrating today as the first day that the band - originally made up of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik - came into existence. The boys, who all individually auditioned for The X Factor back in 2010, formed a group on the show - and went on to become one of the biggest boy bands in the world.

Although Zayn left and the rest of the band went on a hiatus in 2016, their following is still as strong as ever, and Directioners support each of the members in their solo efforts - so Liam's throwback post today has everyone weeping!

What has Liam Payne posted about the One Direction anniversary?

Liam has shared a screenshot of a text he sent to his dad on 23rd July 2010, which reads, 'I'm in a boyband,' along with the heartfelt caption, 'What a journey... I had no idea what we were in for when I sent this text to my Dad ten years ago at this exact time the band was formed.

He sure has. Harry took to Instagram to share a photo of the boys hugging on stage together, writing, 'I’ve been struggling to put into words how grateful I am for everything that’s happened over the last ten years. I’ve seen things and places that I’d only ever dreamt of when I was growing up.

'I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with some of the most incredible people, and gained friendships that I know I will treasure for the rest of my life. None of this would be possible without the support you’ve given along the way. And for that, I will be forever thankful. I just can’t believe it’s been ten years.

'Thank you to our crew, our team, and everyone else who helped us along the way. To all the fans, I love you, and I thank you with all my heart. You did it all, and you changed everything. And finally.. to the boys, I love you so much, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything we achieved together. Here’s to ten. H.'

Despite many holding out for an actual reunion, 1D launched a special website called '10 Years of One Direction', which went active on Thursday 23rd July, the official date of their anniversary.
