The sequel to Top Gun was first confirmed back in 2017 when film producer, Jerry Bruckheimer tweeted a photo of him alongside Tom Cruise saying, 'Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2.' This initial tweet caused a huge amount of excitement, and was later followed by Tom Cruise confirming it in an interview with Australian TV.

Then, back in 2018, fans had the chance to see the first look of Maverick, when Tom Cruise tweeted a photo of himself as the iconic character saying, '#Day1'.

The photo showed the actor facing away from the camera and looking towards a fighter jet, holding a helmet with his name on it. The actor also tagged film producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Skydance, the film studio behind the production.

Then, just last year fans were treated with their first look at Tom Cruise back in action in a high octane trailer. In the trailer, Maverick who is now a flight instructor, is called back into action by Goose's son Bradley, played by Miles Teller.
