Jonnie Irwin shares adorable pic as his son heads to school for the first time ❤️
It's back to school time
Like many parents up and down the country, Jonnie Irwin has shared a photo of his son Rex heading to school for the first time. However, this milestone is particularly poignant for the A Place In The Sun presenter, who revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer last year.
Jonnie took to Instagram to share the cute photo of Rex standing in the garden, telling his fans: 'First day of school. I’m so proud of him I could burst. X'.
After just a couple of days, Jonnie's post has received more than 40K likes and hundreds of comments, with one fan writing: 'So glad you can enjoy this special milestone' another commented: 'It’s an emotional day first day at school Have a fantastic day x'.
A third fan commented: 'Very proud daddy, He is your double Jonny beautiful ❤️'.
TV presenter and long-time friend Jasmine Harman wrote: 'Ridiculously cute!', and former A Place in the Sun presenter Amanda Lamb wrote: 'Oh stop it!!! He looks so grown up…. Hope he’s had a brilliant day xx'.
Jonnie's photo comes less than a month after he shared some photos from a family holiday, showing his three kids, four-year-old Rex, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac, sitting with him on a sun lounger, wearing cute matching shirts.
The TV presenter has previously revealed he decided not to tell his kids about his cancer diagnosis, saying he thought it might 'confuse' them.
In November 2022 he revealed to the public that he had been diagnosed with cancer, and only given months to live. However, with the help of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments, Jonnie's prognosis was lengthened, allowing him to carry on with certain work.
Speaking to HELLO! last year, Jonnie said: "It's got to the point now where it feels like I’m carrying a dirty secret – it’s become a monkey on my back. I hope that by shaking that monkey off and talking to HELLO!, I might inspire people who are living with life-limiting prospects to make the most of every day; to help them see that you can live a positive life, even though you are dying."
