Combine harvester completely destroyed in blaze

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze involving a combine harvester in a Somerset village.

Crews were called to Langford Budville last night.

The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire - which is believed to have started accidentally.

The incident was helped by the farmer creating a fire break in the field to stop the fire spreading further.

The service said: "Two fire engines and a water bowser were mobilised following a call reporting a combine harvester on fire in a field. Upon arrival they requested one more fire engine, as the fire had spread to the field.

"Throughout the incident crews used:

  • Three breathing apparatus
  • Two hose reel jets
  • One fog spike
  • One thermal image camera
  • Beaters
  • Triple Extension Ladder

"The combine harvester was 100% damaged by fire. The incident was helped by the farmer creating a fire break in the field to prevent the fire spreading further.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."
