Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service say two fire engines were sent to a town pontoon after reports of a boat on fire in the early hours of this morning (17 November).

Firefighters, wearing two sets of breathing apparatus, brought the fire under control using one hose reel jet, while a thermal imaging camera was used to monitor remaining hotspots.

Crews also deployed life jackets as part of their safety measures during the incident.

Despite their efforts, the private yacht, moored at the pontoon, was completely destroyed, with firefighters confirming the vessel was 100% lost to the fire.

An adult man suffered 5% burns to his body and was taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Harbour Master also attended the scene to assess any environmental impacts resulting from the incident.

Fire investigators believe the cause of the blaze was accidental.
