Major incident declared following suspected gas explosion in Swansea

Police and the fire service are in attendance in the Morriston area

A major incident has been declared following a suspected gas explosion which looks to have destroyed a house in Swansea.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service tell us they were alerted at 11.20 this morning with South Wales Police telling us they're dealing with an incident at the junction of Clydach Road and Field Close in Morriston.

Photos of the incident show a huge amount of rubble on the corner of the road with a house almost entirely destroyed.

It has now been confirmed by police that three people have been taken to hospital with injuries.

South Wales Police have also confirmed that one person is still unaccounted for, and that work is going on to locate them.

Leader of Swansea Council Cllr Rob Stewart tweeted a picture saying his thoughts were with the people living there.

Emergency services are at the scene and people are being asked to avoid the area.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue service has released the following statement:

"At 11.20am on Monday, March 13th, crews from Morriston, Swansea West, Neath, Gorseinon and Port Talbot were called to an incident in Morriston following several reports of a gas explosion.

"As well as Fire and Rescue Service Crews, South Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service are in attendance.

"South Wales Police have declared a major incident."
