Your ultimate guide to Race Across the World series 6
The teams are travelling from Italy to Mongolia
Last updated 17 hours ago
With series six of Race Across The World now underway, we're following the teams as they embark on a huge journey from Palermo in Sicily, to Mongolia, travelling by any means possible, except by air.
So far there have been five series and three celebrity editions of BBC entertainment show Race Across The World, but that hasn't stopped us getting super excited as we follow the six teams on their adventure. Here's everything you need to know about the popular show.
When is it on TV?
Series six started at 8pm on Thursday 2nd April, with weekly episodes every Thursday night.
Is there a trailer?
Yes! The first teaser trailer for Race Across The World series six was released on Sunday 15th March. The 40-second clip is captioned with: 'No flights. No phones. No safety net... Let the race begin. 🗺️', showing snippets of this year's pairs racing across the world.
Check out the trailer below:
What is the route?
In what is being described as the 'toughest journey yet', this year's teams are travelling more than 12,000km across Europe and Asia – their route carving through multiple distinctive countries including Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and finishing on the shores of Lake Khövsgöl, in northern Mongolia.
Who are the contestants?
Five teams are taking part in series six, including:
- Jo and Kush - Best friends
- Katie and Harrison - Siblings
- Andrew and Molly - Father and daughter
- Puja and Roshni - Cousins
- Mark and Margo - In-laws
What happened in Episode 1?
Episode 1 started with a tense opening scene following a close-up of people's legs running through deep snow to get to the final checkpoint, before cutting to 51 days earlier in sunny Palermo, Sicily, where the five teams are introduced.
The teams started off in Palermo Cathedral Square travelling to their first checkpoint which was Fiskardo, Kefalonia, Greece. Some teams decided to go overland from Sicily with a short ferry hop to mainland Italy, meanwhile other teams decided to go directly by boat to Napoli. All teams eventually traversed the boot of Italy to get a boat across to Greece.
Siblings Katie and Harrison won the first leg by a significant stretch, as the programme ended with the remaining teams still hunting for the first checkpoint.
What happened in Episode 2?
The second leg of the adventure saw the teams travelling from Fiskardo in Greece to Istanbul in Türkiye. Starting with a huge lead, siblings Katie and Harrison had the chance to get ahead as they travelled to the Turkish city, however unfortunately for the duo they had to sit tight on a neighbouring island, when they missed the last bus to take them to the mainland.
Luckily for their budget, after meeting the owner, they managed to bag a free night at a beautiful hotel.
As the leg progressed, the teams made their way across land and sea. With just 25 minutes between the remaining teams they found themselves on the same ferry leaving the island, to start leg two.
Once again Katie and Harrison kept their lead, arriving at checkpoint three a day ahead of three other teams, Andrew and Molly, Puja and Roshni and Mark and Margo. As the others checked in, Jo and Kush were nowhere to be seen.
The episode ended revealing that the last team at the next check point would be eliminated.
How many episodes?
Series six will include nine episodes, the biggest from any series!
What is the prize?
The winning pair will win a cash prize of £20,000.
