The Rolling Stones' 'Hackney Diamonds' wins GRAMMY Award for Best Rock Album

It had been a long time coming, but in October 2023 The Rolling Stones finally released their 24th studio album - 'Hackney Diamonds'. The album was their first since 2005's 'A Bigger Bang', and featured collaborations with numerous legendary musicians. Fast-forward to 2025, and the album has been awarded Best Rock Album at the GRAMMY Awards.

The award marks their fifth win overall at the prestigious ceremony, with them having picked up their first ever GRAMMY way back in 1987. The album, which is now certified Gold in the UK, won the award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday 2nd February 2025.

When was the album released?

'Hackney Diamonds' was released on 20th October 2023. Upon its release, the band shared a promotional video for the new album on Instagram, along with the tracklist, which features a number of collaborations with well-known musicians and singers. Collaborations include the likes of Paul McCartney, Elton John and even Lady Gaga, who they did a surprise show with in New York City.

Fans were ecstatic with the new album, with one writing: 'I just listened to it and what an amazing album it is ❤️‍🔥', and another saying: 'The best thing I've heard since....long, long time 👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🩵🩵🩵'. A third wrote: 'Absolutely loved every song. Especially Whole Wide World and Bite My Head Off! AMAZING ALBUM 🎸🫶'. (sic)

Does Charlie Watts feature on 'Hackney Diamonds'?

'Hackney Diamonds' was the first time the band - consisting of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood - worked with producer and musician Andrew Watt, known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam and Iggy Pop. It also marked the first record the band released following the sad death of drummer Charlie Watts, who contributed to some tracks in 2019.

Ahead of the album's release, the band shared their song 'Angry', which they premiered back in September 2023 during a live-streamed interview with US chat show host Jimmy Fallon, at Hackney Empire.

Who features on the album?

Along with late Stones drummer Charlie, former Stones bassist Bill Wyman also features on 'Live By The Sword'

'Sweet Sounds Of Heaven' features vocals from Lady Gaga along with keys and piano from Stevie Wonder. 'Get Close' and 'Live By The Sword' has Elton John on piano and 'Bite My Head Off' has Paul McCartney on bass.
