Pet Shop Boys’ new book, Volume, has gone straight in at Number 1 in the UK Independent Bookshop Top 20, after being published last week by Thames & Hudson.

The lavish 592-page hardback, written by Chris Heath and Philip Hoare, offers a complete visual record of the duo from 1984 to 2024, updating 2006’s Catalogue with two decades of artwork, photography, videos and stage designs.

Celebrating 40 years since debut album 'Please', the chart-topping release has been hailed by fans as “pure art on paper” and a “strong entry for the archive.”

What does Volume look like?

On 17th March 2026, Pet Shop Boys shared a video of the book showing the book being flicked through all 592 pages.

They captioned the video: 'Leafing through “Pet Shop Boys Volume”, the complete visual record of PSB. The 592-page hardback book will be published by @thamesandhudson on April 7th 2026 and is available to pre-order now.'

How was it announced?

Taking to social media to announce the new book in November 2025, along with full details of it, the Pet Shop Boys revealed how it will be released to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the release of their 1986 debut album 'Please'.

In the caption, they wrote: 'Pet Shop Boys today announce the forthcoming publication of “Volume”, a 592-page hardback book published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the release of their 1986 debut album, “Please”. The book will be published by distinguished art publishers @thamesandhudson on April 7th 2026 and is available to pre-order now in both a standard hardback edition and a signed and numbered limited edition presented in a slipcase.

'“Pet Shop Boys Volume” updates, in a different format (234 x 156 mm), the 2006 publication, “Catalogue”, with a full creative retrospective of everything visual produced by PSB with their designers, @farrowlondon, in the 20 years since then. “Volume” is therefore the complete visual record of Pet Shop Boys from 1984 to 2024.'

Just three hours after announcing the book, the band added: 'The limited edition of "Volume" is now sold out, with more copies of the standard edition available through the official PSB store.'
